International Market - The Profits, Pitfalls and Partnerships of Speaking Overseas
Roundtable with Rob Salisbury CSP 2003

The first and last observation you’ll make when attending Rob’s session is that he is prepared. He doesn’t just have the slides, he has real examples of all his points. Books, magazines, he even brought his expired passports to demonstrate the importance of a diligent global consultant!
Rob brought to light many points that will help us create quality content and manage our life on the road. In his words “it’s a tough way to make an easy living” and his presentation was reminder that being prepared saves you, well, everything.
Within a 20 minute timeframe he covered 18 valuable points of the why-didn’t-I-think-of-that nature. Why not get in touch with the local speakers association whilst visiting a country? Why not subscribe to all the magazines relevant to you? Why not make sure your passport has at least six months validity before you try to board SQ378?
I was also very inspired by his positive energy. “My only competition is my client’s time”. That is a life-changing quote. From this moment on I’m putting more focus on my client and less on whatever it was that I was focusing on before. See I’ve already changed.
Get prepared. It doesn’t have to be difficult. Make it fun. Outsource all that ‘stuff’. Focus on your client. Network. Partner with other great speakers. Get your content done today. Have more content than you need and then get more content written.
Since I sat in on Rob’s session I have really given special attention to getting organised. I’m sure many of us share in the frustrations associated with time management, but Rob shared how he does it – and you know what? It really is that simple…
