Every APSS Professional Member must:

  • Maintain membership and subscribe to the Code of Professional Ethics.
  • Present a minimum of 50 professional speaking engagements within a 5-year period.
  • Receive excellent ratings from past clients on professional performance evaluations.
  • Continue education in the professional speaking field.

The Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation, conferred by the National Speakers Association and the International Federation for Professional Speakers, is the speaking profession's international measure of professional platform skill. The letters CSP following a speaker's name indicate a speaking professional with proven experience who understands what is required and knows how to deliver client satisfaction.

Choosing a Professional Member or a CSP maximizes your opportunity of getting a speaker with a message that will focus, elevate and enhance the mission of meetings and stick firmly in the memories, attitudes and action plans of the attendees.

ERNEST CHEN

 A consummate speaker with immense experience, Ernest Chen has conducted courses and seminars in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.He was the adjunct lecturer at the Export Institute of Singapore from 1993-2001, and he speaks regularly at corporations and public seminars. His seminar programmes include some of the following:- ·                           Cross-Cultural Communication·                           Public Speaking and Presentation Skill·                           Effective Master of Ceremonies·                           Sales and Marketing ·                           Marketing through Trade Shows/Exhibitions·                           Entrepreneurship·                           Business Broker as a Profession·                           Train the Trainers·                           Personal Effectiveness Ernest Chen had managed conference and exhibitions business. He had participated in many trade missions and international exhibitions. In 1993 he represented Singapore at the Maastrict Seminar on European Union organized by the European Institute of Public Administration. This seminar was meant for invited Top Civil servants and accomplished entrepreneurs from Asean countries. He has over 20 years of marketing and management experience and currently pursuing his passion – education, training and entrepreneurship. He has addressed many conferences and seminars. Some of them were:-1992 Apex International Convention in Sydney1993 PAP Bi-Annual Conference, Singapore.1995 Toastmasters International District Convention at Pattaya, Thailand2000 International Travel Conference at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Ernest Chen is a Distinguished Toastmaster and known as the father of Toastmasters Clubs in Singapore. He chartered the first Community Center Toastmasters Club in 1988 and in 1992 started the world first Mandarin Toastmasters Club at Thomson Community Centre. He initiated the new PESA (Plain English Speaking Award) for Schools and Junior Colleges, and Tertiary Institutes in 1997. This is the only public speaking competition recognized by the MOE and co-organised by MOE together with YMCA Singapore. Ernest organized the World First Speech Marathon with 800 participants speaking for 36 hours continuously in May, 2000. Ernest  is an active community leader and he was awarded PBM in 1993 and BBM in 2004 by the President of Singapore and GSM (Group Constituency Service Star) from Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC in 1999. Currently, Ernest is a board member of YMCA Singapore and he also serves as Vice-Chairman in Thomson Community Centre. He was a founding director of  Asia Professional Speakers Singapore.  Ernest believes in competition and constant learning and upgrading of knowledge. He attends courses and seminars to keep up with changes and knowledge. Occasionally he participated in Toastmasters speech contests – prepared and impromptu speech contests. He had amassed at least 15 Clubs, Areas, Divisions Speech championship. Ernest conducts classes in public speaking for the intellectually challenged people. At present, there are three classes of students who trained under him – once a week. This is his contribution as social entrepreneur. He is also one of the judges for the Citibank-YMCA Youth for Causes Programme – 100 teams of youth and young people are vying to raise money for a VWO through social entrepreneurship. Ernest has a BA (economics) from University of Sydney and  MBA from Andrews University. He is the author of the bestseller. “Earnestly Speaking.” At present, he is finishing another book – “Rhetorically Speaking.” He is married to Carmen and they have 3 children.
